GARMIN MAQPS
It will not load and the advice I get from Garmin is to make sure it is a DVD drive and to wipe the disk off.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
I thought since it was a Garmin product it would be accurate, boy was I wrong! A feature claim on the disc cover claims "Thousands of up-to-date routable roads...". The Arizona map in the White Mountain area has wrong numbers on Forest roads, in the city of Tucson it shows a street (Alvernon) ending at the river, it does not. I know this is only a small area of coverage but, I know these areas and if they are wrong how can a person turst these maps in unknown areas? Its back to National Georaphic topos and Delorme Atlas and Gazetteer for me.

TOPO MAPPING SYSTEM
The mapping was easy to use and the Base Camp software was user friendly. I was the Garmin 60csi GPS. I used the Software for a day hike into the Grand Canyon and felt it met my needs.

GARMIN TOPO MAPS FOR SW US
I got this on the recommendation of a friend who is in charge of GIS for the state of NM, and who felt strongly that considering where I'd likely be spending most of my time hiking and backpacking (NM & CO)...that I'd best be served with the 1:24,000 scale format...getting a lot more detail and data for the areas covered. I'm still learning the GPS and it's capabilities and have no regrets. I give the product rating a 4, only because I probably had some false expectations of how much info this would serve up in a small handheld appliance. When looking at the product promotional material, you are lulled into thinking that you'll receive lush 3D images of forests on your GPS screen, when the reality is that you should feel fortunate to have the outstanding detail of topo lines to identify landforms, etc. I am looking forward to printing out some map sections to augment the GPS info, as I'm also learning map/compass skills in case of equipment failure and battery death!
Cons: lack of printed instructions Recommend: YES Tag: garmin topo us 24k southwest dvd review, topo us 24k southwest dvd review
