ADAPTER

WE LOVE THIS GPS/DVD UNIT, HOWEVER, I AM NOW LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT AC ADAPTER BECAUSE IT WILL NOT WORK WHEN PLUGGED INTO ELECTRIC ONLY THROUGH THE CAR ADAPTER. DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A REPLACEMENT AC ADAPTER OF ANY KIND? THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME.

Nice idea, poor quality control - I purchased the GD-70X and the touch screen stopped working within a week. The second failed to boot after only two days. Fortnately GPSCity is very easy to work with and the RMA process was a snap. I ended up getting a credit and buying the Lowrence i500. I miss the nice DVD player and big screen of the GD-70, but I like knowing that the new unit will work properly. Seems like a great idea with poor quality control. But that's way I purchase through GPS City.

I looked at many if not all available portable GPS devices before deciding that this was the one for me. It has more features and usability than most other GPS devices. It comes with a windshield mounting arm and a fully adjustable tray that allows you to snap-in and remove the unit from your vehicle as quick as using a seatbelt button. I was concerned about the absence of the external GPS jack and contacted the manufacturer. They explained that the newer GD-70X replaced the older less powerful built-in GPS antenna on the original GD-70. It works great as long as it can the sky. Sometimes I wish I had the external jack so I could place an additional GPS antenna on the roof. My large GM rear view mirror partially blocks the line of site often. The only other thing I would change in the software is the MP3 player control screen. It is a Windows CE slpit screen allowing a JPG album cover or picture to view on the right while your Windows style folder and file view are on the left. The way it is now, you can't properly read what the name of the song is because of the limited length of the file name view. It would be better if the album cover was left out. This is a great GPS & entertainment system. The rechargeable battery is handy too when you are away from the included car adapter or the AC adapter. There are some hidden or hard to find features that make this GPS even more valuable. For example, you can press on the items on the screen while viewing the GPS maps and get the digital data coordinates and detailed satellite information. You can also use your finger to touch and drag the screen anywhere you want. I also found some other un-documented features that are as neat as well. You can point to a place on the map and assign it information and save it in favorites. It would have been nice to have a menu or information screen to keep track of SD memory and internal memory used and available space. I can't find information on the advertised "250 mb" internal memory. I can only add 64 mb of mp3 songs on the internal card. My GD-70X came with a 1 Gb SD card so I have no worries. I highly recommend this unit. Initial also has a smaller 5" LCD version with most of the same features as this one. I can't wait until someone makes an affordable virtual driving 3D GPS such as Sony's that is only available in Japan.

I bought the GD-70X unit in March, 2006. The unit is working great. However, the map is out-of-date since the software made before 2004. I wonder how I can get the updated map of 2006!

I first purchased the Initial GD-?, It worked well for about 5 trips, then locked out, Zip, Zero, Nothing! I was told I would have to pay another several hundred $$ to get the new model, Until I spoke with someone kind enough to offer a replacement, since I had such little use and only a short time from purchase. Got my new GD - 70 X and it worked better for about 8 more trips. So now I'm at about 13 trips divided by about $725.00, this equals $55.85 per trip and it CRAPPED OUT again, If 911 is a JOKE the Initial customer Service on hold is Hysterical!!

Well over an hour on hold and several subsequnt hold times, still a big ZERO.

SUM it up: at $56.00 per trip, I'd rather ask directions along the way.

Thank you, Tom Catucci ( Hate the Dam Thing!)

I am using this for over six months and am fully satisfied. I just got an SD card 2 gb so that I can load as much data as possible on to the SD Card. However it is not working. As soon as restart the system with the SD card it gives a message "fatal error has occured and the GPS need to shut down." Will any one throw light why it is happening. Thanks. Gary

The map is out of date and cannot contact the supplier for update. They don't respond to email messages and the customer service does not answer the phone, place on hold for over 1 hour and still holding. Also the SD memory chip does not work. Followed directions but to no avail.
