iPod touch (2nd Generation)


The iPod touch 2nd Generation is the first iPod touch range to include a contoured design, an oval shaped antennae cover in the back upper left corner and volume buttons on the side. Also included on the iPod touch 2nd Generation is an external speaker. The color of the iPod touch is silver on the back and black on the front. iPod nano (2nd Generation)


The iPod Nano 2nd Generation is the first of the nano series to come in 5 different colors plus a (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition. Another small change to the iPod nano from the 1st to 2nd Generation is the removal of the rounded corners and the introduction of curved sides. iPod mini


The iPod mini 1st and 2nd Generation smaller than the iPod yet larger than the iPod nano. There are not any major differences between the 1st and 2nd Generation as they both come in colors and have non color screens. The iPod mini G1 was released in 2004 with a 4GB drive and the iPod mini G2 was released in 2005 with a 4GB and 6GB hard drive. Released: 2004/2005.

iPod classic


The iPod classic includes a wide screen and is available in silver or black. This unit has a street name of "classic". The serial number on the back of this iPod end in one of the following three digits: Y5N, YMU, YMV and YMX. This iPod was relased with a 80GB and 160GB hard drive. Released: 2007.

iPod (5th Generation) (60% brighter)


The iPod 5th Generation, with 60% brighter screen, was introduced in late 2006. Just like the first version of the iPod G5 series, this unit has a street name of "video" iPod and is available in white or black. These video iPod's came in two different batch types - original and 60% brighter. The 60% brighter batch was relased with a 30GB and 80GB hard drive and a U2 Edition with 30GB hard drive. iPod (5th Generation) (video)


The iPod 5th Generation is the first iPod to come with video playback and to be offered in white and black. This unit has a street name of "video" iPod. These iPod's came in two different release types. One is the original video range of iPods and the other is "late 2006" range which was built with a 60% brighter screen. The first "video" batch was released with a 30GB and 60GB hard drive, a U2 Edition with 30GB harddrive and a Harry Potter Edition with 30GB hard drive. Released: 2005.

iPod photo (4th Generation) (click wheel)


The iPod 4th Generation is the first iPod to come with a color screen. This unit has a street name of iPod "photo". These iPod's came in two different batches and two special editions. The first batch, released 2004, had a 40GB and 60GB harddrive and the second batch, released 2005, had a 20GB, 30GB and 60GB harddrive. The two special edition units were the U2 Edition iPod and a Harry Potter Edition iPod, both with a 20GB hard drive. Released: 2004/2005.

The iPod 4th Generation is the first iPod to come with the four touch control buttons built into the touch click wheel and is also the first iPod with a monochrome display. These iPod's came in a 20GB and 40GB hard drive and a U2 Edition iPod with a 20GB hard drive. Released: 2004.

iPod (3rd Generation) (dock connector)


The iPod 3rd Generation is the first iPod to come with the dock connector at the bottom of the unit. The four control buttons are touch buttons positioned directly below the non color screen. These iPod's came in an original batch in early 2003 with a 10GB, 15GB and 30GB hard drive and then a second relase in late 2003 with a 20GB and 40GB hard drive. Released: 2003.

iPod (2nd Generation) (touch wheel)


The iPod 1st and 2nd Generation is the very first iPod in the classic style range. If you have one, and it is still working, you can identify it by the four control buttons which are built around the front wheel (the iPod G1 also has a turning Scroll Wheel). Other distinctive features about this iPod is the non color display and the fact that the cable connection type is firewire found on the top of the iPod. The iPod's came with a 10GB and 20GB hard drive. Released: 2002.
