This cable is terminated at one end with a molded GARMIN plug (to mate with the GPS receiver), and has four color-coded bare wires at the other end: 1.power, 2.ground (for both power and signal), 3.data out, and 4.data in. Use it to permanently hard-wire your power and/or data connections for your GPS receiver. This cable was the original 'fix' for the problem of powering the Garmin units while trying to get data out of them at the same time (due to Garmin's 'single connector' design on their units). If you are not a soldering expert or don't have the time, try the PC COMBO CABLE for the car or the AC/PC COMBO CABLE for in the home.

StanL Vancouver WA June 26, 2009	BARE WIRE CABLE FOR 400C DOESN'T WORK! The Bare Wire Cable that was identified by Garmin as an accessory for the Colorado 400C does NOT work with the 400C. Supposedly the cable will allow you to use the NEMA input/output, however, the GPS stops generating data when you plug the mini-USB into the port on the 400C. This port is only for downloading software updates or data from the Garmin MAPSOURCE program which also a near useless piece of software. 12 out of 24 viewers found this review helpful. James Carl Robinson December 4, 2008	POWER/DATA CABLE WORKS GREAT This cable allows me to externally power the GPS unit while at the same time outputting serial NMEA or TEXT data. You do have to hardwire a DB9 serial connector, but that was easy enough with a soldering gun and a Radio Shack D-Sub connector (P/N 276-1538).
