NICE UNIT BUT
Pros: easy to run, good battery life, compact. Cons: workmanship is a bit shoddy, screen a bit small I upgraded from the B&W legend this spring to this one. I
like it very much but would change a couple of things.
needs a bit larger screen for older eyes. the soft rubber
around the edge of the unit is bubbling and is puckered up
in places I don't think it is going to last. other than
that I like it.

GREAT GEOCACHING GPS
Pros: good reception and easy to use with geocaching Cons: no internal memory I have purchased several of these now over the past two
years, mainly for my students to use Geocaching. It has a
very friendly interface, and the reception is surprisingly
good - important out here in the land of rocks and trees.
I was a little disappointed that there was no internal
memory, as I only need to store a few MB of maps, but SD
cards are cheap these days.

VERY VERSATILE GPS
Pros: quickly finds satellites, excellent battery life. I bought the HCx primarily for use on my motor scooter and
bicycle. As others have pointed out, you need to purchase
mapping software (I'm using MetroGuide Canada) to take
advantage of the HCx's very good trip routing capabilities.
I applaud Garmin for including a printed manual with the
HCx. Unfortunately, the manual doesn't cover some of the
finer points of creating and modifying routes (e.g., how to
change the order of waypoints). I had to learn these things
by trial-and-error.
Note: if you are planning on using Garmin's handlebar mount
kit for the HCx, disregard the instructions to replace the
battery cover with the one included in the kit. That cover
doesn't fit the HCx. Instead, use the "auxiliary mount
adapter" that comes with the HCx to attach the GPS to the
mount.

OUR 1ST
Cons: can be a little slow at times when you change dire Our first GPS, works good for our needs (mostly
geocaching). Took a little getting used to but
that was probably user error more than the unit
not working right.

THE PERFECT HAND-HELD GPS UNIT
Pros: weight, discovery, battery life, color Cons: onboard map is severly lacking This great little handheld has come in handy many
times since I bought it. After using an old
monochrome-screened Garmin eTrex Legend for a
number of years, this was a great upgrade!
Satellite discovery is fast, even from in my
basement, something I was unable to claim before.
The color screen is very sharp, but can be dim if
you don't use the backlight. With the backlight
on, it is brilliant. The device will also switch
to a different color scheme at night for easier
viewing in low light so as not to affect your eyes.
The only con I had for the device is the onboard
map... It's very limited. It listed none of the
surface streets around me save for the highways
and freeways that run nearby. I had to buy the
City Navigator map upgrade from Garmin to get the
full set of maps on the device. Once this is done,
however, it's perfect. They also offer a number of
other maps, and I'll be getting the national park
topographical maps as well next.

A VERY NICE UNIT
Pros: colour screen, easy to navigate Cons: screen a bit small, I have been using an e-trex legend (blue ) for
about 3 years geocaching and on ground search &
rescue and liked it very much. I had an ond GPS V
that I used in the truck for highway trips. To
make a long story short the GPS V died so I got
the e-trex Legend HCx to replace it. I have used
it on a few geocaches and it is very good. I have
downloaded all the topo maps of the maritimes on
the little memory card (an extra) and have plenty
of room for waypoints and tracks. In the future
I'll be getting a card with roads and streets as
then maybe when I use that function the GPS won't
be sending me on shortcuts where there isn't any
access to the highway.

FANTASTIC PRODUCT
Pros: to many to list Cons: none that i have noted thus far I am currently using the Legend HCx with the TOPO
Canada maps and it works great! The color screen
is easy to read, the functions of the HCx were easy
to learn and navigate through. The 2 AA batteries
last longer in this unit than I have seen with any
other products.
I purchased this item along with the RAM mount for
the car as it has turn by turn routing, which
paired with the City Navigator maps makes this a
great all around portable navigator.
I highly recommend the Legend HCx for hiking
trails or driving across North America.
Cheers.

THE REAL DEAL IN GPS
Pros: very accurate. long battery life. easy to operate. Cons: how frustrating, i can't think of one. Originally bought a base model Garmin H. Decided
to upgrade to the Legend HCx. No regrets, there is
so much in this little package. Does everything
that I need a GPS to do and it's size makes it
easy to take just about anywhere. Highly recommend
this model.

A PERFECT ADDITION TO YOUR TACKLE BOX!
I bought a Legend HCx in March in time for a fishing
trip in northern Manitoba. I enjoy fishing with my
buddies who are able to find their way around much
easier than I am. With the Legend I was able to mark
waypoints as well as two tracks on the lake to our
favorite fishing spots. Once this was done, I had no
trouble finding my way back which was about 15km. The
Legend has given me confidence on the lake and will be
a great tool to use on other lakes in the future. As a
matter of interest, on the second day we were there
this year, two boats came in to the dock where we were
staying as we were leaving in the morning. We found
out later that day that this group were staying at
another spot on the lake but had got lost the day
before and had spent the night on the lake. They got
to where we were by following another boater in the
morning. The lake we were on has 1000 miles of shore
line so not a good place to get lost on. What they
needed was a Legend HCx in their boat...they would
have had no trouble finding their way home. Their
expensive boats and fishing gear didn't help them do
that. The legend is easy to use/read and the manual
that is included provides detailed information on all
the functions. Buy one, you will love it!
