Apple Mac User Request Page
Total petitioners: 0 and counting!
As you browse through the GPS products and software we carry on our website, you will note that the vast majority of the products are all PC based, with little or no support for Apple products.

We have talked in the past with the manufacturer's of the GPS products about providing Apple compatibility. We even offered to assist them by allocating our own resources to get the job done. But to no avail. They always cite 'lack of development resources' and 'not enough market share' to make it worthwhile.

Well, we think this is wrong! Apple makes a beautiful product and there are enough Apple users around that the GPS manufacturer's should be developing their products with the necessary Apple support.

So let's start a Mac GPS User Request petition. Add your name to the list and hopefully we'll be able to prove that there is a substantial market opportunity for the manufacturers if they make their products Mac compatible. And tell all your Mac friends to signup if they wish to as well.

We will forward a summary of petitioners (showing names and zip codes only, but without email addresses) to the manufacturers on a monthly basis. Currently, there are 0 names on the petition list.
October 24, 2003 Update: Software for the MAC!. National Geographic Topo Maps will be releasing the first MAC based Topo Software in early November, 2004.

August 4, 2003 Update: So far, we have had only 500+ people sign up over a period of almost 6 months. That is not enough interest to get the attention of any of the manufacturers. Perhaps the Apple market share is really too small to be taken seriously!! We all need to get the word out - pass this on to all your MAC friends and associates and get other website's to link to this page. We will continue this page for another few months to see if the numbers can increase substantially.

August 8, 2003 Update: The MAC/GPS Community Awakens! Wow! Great response today. Thank you everyone. We'd like to encourage everyone's continued support to reach a minimum target of 5,000 names - that should surely get the attention of Garmin and Magellan. And, if we reached 10,000+ names, well, they really wouldn't have an excuse any more, would they!!

October 25, 2004 Update: Just a quick update to let everyone know that we are still bringing this matter to the attention of the GPS manufacturers. To date the response has always been the same - resources are limited and they (the manufacturers) get a better ROI when these resources are assigned to Windows based projects. Nonetheless, we will never surrender!! GPS City still feels that the Mac community is strong enough to warrant Mac support for the GPS products so we will continue to raise this requirement with them on a regular basis. We are approaching 10,000 names on the petition, however, this amount has yet to garner their interest - a number approaching 100,000 should surely get their attention! Please pass the word to those interested.
