Loose Garmin GPS 48 antenna mount, steven henkind, maitland florida
Hello, I have a Garmin 48 handheld GPS. The antenna mount is loose (the "male" metal cylinder on the upper R side of the unit which the antenna screws onto). The GPS still functions, but my concern is that this loose attachment point means that the unit is no longer watertight (this attachment point has a LOT of play in it). Is this something which is fixable/worth fixing? Any suggestions as to whether I could do this myself or if this needs to be professionaly done (and by who and how much this might cost?) I understand that the unit is very old and probably not worth much - but, if possible, I would like to keep it since I have it interfaced to a chart plotter and don't want to have to deal with setting up new cabling, interface parameters, etc... Thanks very much for your help.

It is not worth fixing. You can get a much better unit that is cheaper than the repair costs. The new unit will most likely do the same functions just a little better. A similar unit would be the GPSMap 72H for a basic unit with NMEA out.
