The screws on the bottom are covered by a thin clear plastic sheet. They look almost as if it were designed to be removable mounting plate that would facilitate mounting this to a non-metalic surface. Garmin.com does not seem to have any info on this product regarding mounting.

Any ideas? Actually, I'm thinking about how to use it in the field in concert with a hand-held (GPSMAP 76S) where thick vegetation is sometimes a problem. I'm thinking about mounting either to a pole, or to have it out of the way, to a hat.

Thanks!

I have mounted these antennas to non metallic surfaces. In those applications all I used was glue and a bead of silicon around the edge to keep dirt building up under and along the edges.

The screws on the bottom hold the magnets in place. You could remove them but when doing so the antenna may no longer be waterproof.
