I have a Garmin nuvi 1490t. It came with Canada and USA. Travelling to Western Europe soon. Purchased Garmin's map of W. Europe on line as download. I get a message that there is not enough memory. Salesperson who sold me this device (which we like) told me we could download maps of other countries. No good if it has inadequate memory! Surprised that the download process did not identify this problem before they sold me the download. They must have sold millions of these in N. America and run into this problem before. Now I have to try and get a refund!

You should avoid putting maps on the internal memory of the device for it can erase your North American maps. You will be able to load the maps onto an micro SD card and put that in the unit. Micro SD cards are very inexpensive. You will need a 4GB card. When running Mapinstall there will be a drop down menu where your device is listed. Click the down arrow and you should be able to select the memory card that you put in the unit.

Once the maps are transferred. You can test them by using the map screen to pan over to Europe then zoom in. You can also do the similar when searching through the 'Where to?' menu. Just click on 'Near' button and select a city in Europe.

If that does not work then please feel free to contact Garmin for assistance. 1-800-800-1020 They have techs that can assist you through the process
