I'm trying to decide what to purchase as a replacement to an older Magellan that is no longer supported. I'm considering switching to Garmin because it seems to receive higher reviews than Magellan. Do you find that to be true?
Also, what are the pros and cons of purchasing an older version such as Nuvi 1300LMT as opposed to the newer 50LM? So far I have only found 2 different reviews on the newer 50LM. There are lots of reviews on the older version. What would you purchase if you were in my position? Thank you so much for your help.

Garmin has better support behind their units and from experience has had better units for about six years or so now. They have a much larger user community also so their is a Ton of support. Garmin also has more diversity in the units such as the ability to load Topo mapping.

It is better to go with a newer unit. you will get newer maps out of the box and a longer support cycle. When it comes to the nuvi 1300 vs the 50lm I would go with the 1300. It is better built. The 50lm was made to be more affordable and does not feel as well built as the 1300.

If I was purchasing a new unit I would go with a nuvi 3790LMT or similar unit.
