Thinking of using this gps on the water as well as the car, has anyone used the inland lakes maps, or the vision g2 maps , how does it work, with one or the other the g2 maps are expensive if they don't work well.also some websites do not seem to have the trent severn/ st lawrence Canadian maps available anyone know why?

Hello Dandj,
The Nuvi 550 works alright as a handheld Navigator with Marine and Topo Maps. It is still highly recommended to use a unit made for that use. For Marine use a marine unit tends to have more marine functions than the 550. The Nuvi 550 does alot but not fully.

About the mapping. You can buy the maps from us for that area

Here is a cheaper option. It does not contain the 3D vision data but it is half the cost.

I need a GPS to mount on my snowmobiles handle bars similar to your motorcycle mount. If I buy the Nuvi 550, can I load in a marine map for covering the west side of Georgian Bay? I get lost going through the "30,000 Islands" a lot. I have Garmin GPS's in my boat & car & wouldn't travel without them. Fantastic!

Garmin only shows that the Nuvi 550 is compatable with G2, not G2 Vision. Will the 550 run G2 Vision?

Hello Ron,

The nuvi 550 can read and use the basic maps of a vision card but can not utilize the special features of a vision card. So the nuvi 550 cannot do fish eye or mariners eye view. It will however read the basic charts on the card. We recommend a regular Bluechart G2 card for the nuvi 550.

Cheers
