What happened to the Garmin lock that used to discourage theft? the Garmin site says this model does not have it, and the same for similar models. Why would they stop putting in a theft prevention feature ? (My current 755T has it, and I am hesitating on upgrading because of the lack of this feature.)

The Garmin lock didn't prevent theft. Just made the unit useless to the person who stole it. What I was told by a Garmin tech is it caused more issues that it did good. Users (or their friends) would go in set it and not remember the code they used. Using the home location would solve that but sometimes that would be changed also or not remembered.

There is a program you can add to your GPS memory that will do more good that the PIN code Garmin had. It is Gadget track www.gadgettrak.com It will send the IP and other information of the thief to them so they can coordinate with police.
