The Nuvi 1450LMT will read and display topo maps but is not recommended to be used in place of a hand held GPS.

So I understand if I buy a SD card with pre-loaded GPS maps and plug into my Nuvi, will the Topo maps come up automatically? I stopped by Sportsmans Warehouse yesterday and they would not guarnatee me the card would work......the sale person said it will only work in the Garmin 500??? So I did not buy one yet. This is getting very confusing, Is there software that I must install in my computer and then download into my 1450??
Thank you, again....Ron

The Garmin Topo maps we sell will work in the nuvi 14XX series. You will need to turn off the street mapping. If you buy it on SD card there is no software need to put it on your GPS. Just put the card in the unit. If you buy the DVD it will come with software to put on the unit. Feel free to contact us with more questions. We will not steer you wrong. We use the units we sell.

Great information, and thank you......one last question.
Will I be better off with the SD card or the DVD?

Thanks again, Ron

When it comes to Topo maps the DVD is normally better because it is easy to load your own SD card and you can load multiple SD cards. Also the Topo DVD is not locked to one unit so if you get a handheld in the future you can have the maps both on the nuvi and Garmin Handheld at the same time.
