How come my nuvi 40LM doesn't recognize Canada?

How come my nuvi 40LM doesn't recognize Canada? I go to enter a Canadian address, and try to type in Canada as a country, and the only thing that comes up is'Cayman Islands'. Or i go to type in Ontario, and 'Oklahoma' or other U.S. ctates come up and nothing Canadian. What is wrong? I live in Canada, but it just can't find any Canadian addresses when i try to enter them.

The unit will have Canada if you purchased it from GPS City Canada. If you are not in Canada trying to look up Canadian address's you will need to set the province/state to the correct one. By your post it sounds like you did not buy a unit with Canadian maps in it.

If you purchased your unit in the USA and it does not have Canada you can buy the Canadian maps by following the link.

I received my GPS as a gift. It will not recognize Canada just Montana, USA. What do I need to do so I can use it to navigate around my area, Alberta.

In addition to my last post, I have tried to set the province/state but it always goes back to Montana.

Has the unit acquired a GPS signal? Have you let it sit undisturbed for a few minutes in view of the sky?

If it has acquired a signal and is still locating in Montana, you should try to update the firmware with the Garmin WebUpdater program found here, www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
