Why is there a Charging Battery Message?

My Nuvi 1300 always displays a message that the battery is being charged. I usually have the garmin turned off and it is always plugged into my car charging port. Why does this message always display?

The unit will display that it is charging when plugged in. If it says charging when you are not plugged in then please try a firmware update using the free program WebUpdater.

Thanks for the quick reply. My old nuvi never did this and my wife's nuvi (about a year old) doesn't either. I like it better when off was off (i.e. no display). Oh well....
