I bought a Garmin nuvi 40 today and am slowly getting to grips with it. The device turns itself on automatically every time I turn on the car's ignition. Is there any way to stop this (other than remove the plug from the cigarette lighter). I would prefer to turn the Garmin on manually.

mine doesn't do this... it's either on or off or in standby mode while it charges after pressing button for less then a second.

It will turn on automatically when given a power source. This is what happens when you turn your car on/off. If you want it to stay on, you'll have to wire it to a source other then ignition. Much the same as a radio's "battery" wire. is used to save it's settings. Or attache some kind of Universal power source via usb. This way it won't auto on because it's power source state doesn't change.

OR simply turn it off, after you start the car...it will stay off until you start the car again, or turn it on manually.
