Is there a way to transfer Favorites and retain the icons?

I copied all of my favorites from my Nuvi 885T into Basecamp. They all show up fine in Basecamp with the proper sysmbols I had previously set up. I uploaded these same favorites to my Nuvi 3590LMT and they all appear as green hearts. I can select each one individually on the 3590 and change the symbols to one of a very few shown (all green). Is there a way to get them to display with the original symbols I already set up? Are there additional symbols available somewhere to download and transfer to the 3590 allowing me more flexibility than the few green symbols that are resident in the 3590?

Any suggestions for better symbol selection or keeping of my previous symbols would be greatly appreciated. Other than that I love this new unit. It is very responsive compared to my 3 year old unit.

At this time I could not find a way to keep original icons. the icons need to be in the unit in order for the proper icon to be used. This is great feedback for Garmin. Please let them know the problem you are having so they can fix it in future updates. The best way to notify them is via the webpage www.garmin.com/ideas
Or give them a call at 1-800-800-1020

We will let them know also. The more people that bring it up the more likely the change will be made.

Jordan, do you know of any way or source for downloading sysmbols/icons and installing them into the 3590? Are they located anywhere accessible on my old unit or in basecamp folders or possibly from Garmin or third-party for downloading?

Thank you for you help.

There is no way to modify the favorite icons or add new ones that I know of. However you should be able to do it with POILoader. POILoader will load your favorites into your main Where To? menu under extras/other categories. On older units you can make custom icons for the POI. You should be able to do the same with this new unit.
garmin.com -> Support -> Software -> POILoader

There are instructions on the page and many tutorials online for creating your own icons and POI lists. It is a simple process but may take a few tries to get it working the way you like. You can even set proximity alarms around your favorites so when you get near you will get an alarm even if you are not routing to it.

I've recently bought a 3590 and am very disappointed at how one can't load waypoints from Basecamp or MapSource with their associated symbols into the 3590. Loading waypoints via the POI loader doesn't solve the problem either.

I've had a couple of call with the Garmin support centre and all I got was acknowledgement that the shortcoming in this design exists.

Whats the use of having great trip planning programs like Basecamp and MapSource if Garmin's GPS devices don't support their capability (unlike previous models). It seems like the design team doesn't understand how many people uses their software and devices.

Thank you for your comments. We have passed them a long to Garmin and hopefully they will allow this functionality with a future firmware update on the 3500 series.

Another problem with the 3590 (I think I saw this elsewhere) is that when transferring to the device from Basecamp routes are not transferred. How clever is that! Basecamp is virtually useless with the 3590.

We have had no problems transferring routes from a computer to a nuvi 3590 LMT. Please explain the problems you have had.

Hi Jordan. I too am having problems transferring routes from basecamp to my 3590lmt. I imported some trails off of traildamage website into basecamp. They are .gpx files. I attach the 3590lmt to the computer and have basecamp already open. Right click on my collection and select send to device. It transfers and says transfer complete (or something like that). But when I get back into the 3590 you can't find the routes anywhere. I've done the trip planner thing where it says open up trip planner and it can take several minutes for it to load up the route. But it never comes up. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you are sending a track which will not work. You need to make the track into a route. You will need to right click on the track in Basecamp and select the option to make the track a route. Once the track is a route then you can send it to the GPS unit. To find the route it will be in the Trip Planner application on the GPS unit. If using the Send To GPS button does not work try dragging the route into your GPS icon in the Basecamp program. Please let us know if that helps
