Is there Digital 3D (HD) Traffic coverage in Canada?

Does anyone know if the 3490 currently supports receiving traffic information in the major Canadian cities right now?

According to the Garmin website, this unit only comes with an HD traffic receiver, not the older RDS Traffic receiver. But the footnotes at the bottom of Garmin's webpage for the traffic coverage, still link to the older RDS traffic page from Navteq.

if you manually go to the HDTraffic coverage, they don't show anything for Canada yet.

So Garmin needs to update their website, to point to the correct coverage maps for their HD traffic models.

but what I want to know is, can anyone in Canada confirm if there is traffic info with this unit in Canada, or is it not yet available?

What is the use of buying a top of the line unit, that has no traffic reception, and doesn't fall back to the older RDS traffic information in areas which haven't upgraded to HD traffic yet? Why couldn't they have included both RDS and HD receivers?

I just got an answer back to my own question, from Garmin Product support. it reads as follows:

"The 3490LMT comes with the GTM60 traffic receiver. You can see more about this receiver here:
//buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=104181
The GTM60 will receive both the 3D Traffic and the Digital Traffic (HD). Currently there are no HD traffic coverage areas in Canada. In this case, the GTM60 would use the 3D Traffic network.
If you travelled into an area with HD Traffic, the receiver would use that network."

So, it seems that the new Garmin units which have the Digital Traffic receivers, still have the older (RDS) 3D traffic receivers as well, which is why they will work in Canada, where the HD Traffic is not yet available.

I just received this unit and I can't get a traffic signal in Toronto. I will call Garmin support tomorrow. I was banking on this thread when I made my decision to purchase this. If it doesn't in fact work in Toronto then I have a problem. I'll keep this updated.

To obtain a traffic signal you must have the cigarette lighter adapter cable plugged into the cradle of the GPS and into the vehicle, as this is where the traffic receiver is housed.

While there isn't an HD traffic signal available in Canada just yet, the GTM 60 will also receive the basic FM traffic signals.
