my garmin updater says it has new maps for download. I connected my Garmin at 14:00hrs yesterday and it began updating software before it could load the maps. at 10:00hrs today it was still downloading or updating software. i think something is wrong so i shut it down. decided to retry an hour later and it began updating software again. then i got a message that said "unable to load firmware as i had to delete some files to do so. I dumped a few favorite destinations as these were tjhe only things i could figure out how to dump. please help with some directions.RWC7K

To load the updates to this unit you will need a microSD card for the internal memory is not large enough anymore. When using the Garmin lifetime map updater be sure to select Save map to you computer. Then you can use Garmin Mapinstall to load a memory card with you maps.

will it be necessary for me to have the card plugged in every time i use the garmin? and will one micro sd card be large enough to continue loading updates as they come along? Are there different sizes of micro cards for garmin?

You will need to leave the card in and if you get a 4gb card you will have enough memory
