Nuvi 1200 routing in pedestrian?

I initially had a problem with the unit (Nuvi 1250) shutting down in pedestrian mode but the latest firmware release seems to have fixed that. Since then I have tested the unit in two cities with mixed results. More often then not the unit simply grinds away looking for alternate routes but never finds anything with me shutting it down before the batteries die. Sometimes the unit just gives up and tells me I can't get there from here. Other times the unit seems oblivious to obvious public transit choices. For example, I tried to get a route in Chicago using public trans (commuter trains) but the unit seems incapable. The unit seems to recognize Metra stations as public transit but when I selected two stations on one line and asked for a route between them (pretty simple one would think) the unit suggested I walk the 5 miles between two train stations. I have now bought three City Xplorer maps for the unit but plan on buying no more until the unit works.

We have talked to Garmin and they say it should work. You should call Garmin just in case the data is being entered in wrong. Here is their contact number 1-800-800-1020. Please do not email Garmin, so that you get a quick answer just in-case you need to get refunded for the software you purchased from Garmin. I dont have access to the software right now to assist you.
