Hello, What I'm looking for is a long over due upgrade. I've had a SPIII for ages (it is now very dated). I use it in a car and a motorcycle. The best features of the SPIII is that I can run it through my laptop (while in a vehicle) and use the laptop screen, as well as build routes and put them in the unit, when on the M/C.

Please lead me towards a new unit(s) that has those two features

Thanks in advance, Bob

You will not be able to use the new units as a sensor for your laptop like your older GPS unit. You will need to run a separate GPS connected to your laptop for the larger screen navigation.

The Nuvi 550 is not a motorcycle GPS unit. The ones you will want for both your bike and car are the ZUMO series by Garmin. Here are some links.

The sensor you can use for your laptop is know as the GPS 20x. It is packaged with street navigation software or can be purchased by itself for use with other Garmin software. You can also use a Garmin handheld GPS as a sensor. Here is a link to the Mobile 20x PC package.

Jordan, Thanks for all the helpful info. I think I've narrowed my choice down to the Nuvi 550. The reason being it comes loaded with North America and Canada. The question I have this time is in regards to loading my routes into the unit. In the past I used "City Navigator" to load my SPIII. Would it be the same for the Nuvi 550? If so I'll be buying the 2010 version.
Thanks again, Bob
T
