Voice guidance breaking up on Nuvi 255w

Friend of mine bought a Nuvi255W in Feb 2010 in Toronto and is generally quite happy. However on recent roadtrip to S. Carolina we found that advance turn voice prompts given about 1.5 km before turn broke up very badly and were essentially unintelligible. Prompts give 500 meters before turn were fine and long range prompts just after turn were also fine, just those 'getting close' prompts. Didn't get lost and didn't miss any turns but we began to wonder if unit needed software up-grade or factory service or replacement

Hello Glenn,

I would try updating it using Garmins WebUpdater. You may also want to play around with the volume settings.

cheers

I updated the 255W software & map for my friend last night. They are going to try it out again over then next couple of days and a weekend trip to see how it goes. I'll post an up-date incase anyone is having similar problems. Garmin said the same thing (asked them 2nd!) so you're right on the ball. Thanks again.

The aforementioned up-date worked wonders! No more problem.

Hello Charlie,

Sorry about the mix up. There is no way to get a scale indicator on the 3D map screen. You can get it on the 2D screen when Navigating the map. Just slide your finger along the map screen to put it in 2D mode. You can also do so in the settings menu.

Cheers
