Hello, first post

I am confused whether I should buy a Garmin Nuvi 550 GPS or 2595LMT. I take a vacation every year on the coastal side of the St Lawrence river from Tadoussac until Sept-Iles.

I am looking for a GPS that can be useful and fun for the road and coast.

I am really interested in seeing the depth of the water

I have some questions:

2) Is Bluechart G2 useful to see the depth of the water near the coast. There are also sites that say the garmin nuvi 550 is compatible with BlueChart g2 Vision but is limited?

3) Is BlueChart g2 enough for what I need or do I also need to buy the St. Lawrence Seaway, Jul 08 (2US020R)?

4) Is it that you need to be ON the water to see the depth of the river or is it okay if I just led to the river for AC shows the gps?

Neither unit would be recommended for Bluecharts mapping. What you will want is a handheld or GPS chartplotter for boating. I suggest the Montana series.

The nuvi 550 will be compatible with Bluecharts G2 but i would not suggest it as a unit to be used as you main device on the water. I would suggest it as a backup. All other nuvi's will not read bluecharts.

Why does it say on the comparison table that the 2595LMT is bluechart vision compatible?

Sorry but the nuvi series is not compatible with bluecharts with the exception to the nuvi 550. The nuvi 550 is not a very good marine device. You will be better off with a Chartplotter and or handheld.

** What you see is an error that will be shortly fixed. please feel free to double check with Garmins site.
