What are comparable GPS units to the Nuvi 550? I know about the Zumo line from Garmin, so no need to repeat those. What about units from Magellan, TomTom, or other manufacturers?

What is your intended use? With that info we can recommend a product for you. The nuvi 550 is a basic unit that has some cross over features. If you are looking for a GPS unit that is suitable for most uses without losing many features then the Garmin Montana 650 is a great unit.

Mapping and other accessories for the Montana 650 are generally purchased separately.

Thanks, Jordan! I'm looking to use the GPS for my motorcycle, but I can't afford the Zumo line. Too expensive. The Nuvi 550 is good, but I want to see what other options there are. For me, the top priority would be long battery life, at least greater than 5hrs. Most GPS don't seem to offer long battery life. Waterproof is not necessary though good. I ride only on roads.

Oh, I just checked out your recommendation, the Garmin Montana 650. It's too pricey. :-(

The nuvi 550 would be the cheapest option that comes with mapping preloaded.

Thank you, Jordan. Ah, it's too bad I don't have more options to compare it with. I do like the specs of the Nuvi 550 overall. The only thing I wish it had (as an upgrade from my Nuvi 255W) is lane assist, given how much MORE expensive the 550 is compared to my old 255W.
