I've had my 265WT for at least a couple years now or more. I can't imagine using it unplugged but are the batteries in these things only good for so long? I'm also considering getting the lifetime map updates for it but am worried that if it suddenly dies, then I'm screwed since the maps aren't transferable... Any experiences with how long these units last?

Hi Steve,

Three to four years is pretty normal in most situations. Batteries have a tendency to lose the ability to keep a charge toward the end of that time. With the Lifetime subscription being around 75 dollars I would strongly consider looking at a new unit that provides you with that feature already. Any Nuvi ending in LMT will be eligible.
