Considering purchasing a GPS for primarily Canada & USA but traveling to Europe this fall. Is it better to purchase the Garmin 2475LT model or a standard GPS with lifetime North American maps and pay the $70 extra charge to download Europe map? I have read many issues with outdated Europe maps so is it better to purchase the upgrade maps or go with the basic unit?

If you buy the nuvi 2475LT you can update the Europe maps withing 90 days of the purchase to the latest version. You would be getting the same version as the update at a lower cost. The nuvi 2475LT does not come with Lifetime North American map updates. The LT stands for Lifetime traffic. Models that end with LMT or LM will have the lifetime maps. You will need to purchase the map update subscription separately. You still get one free update with in 90 days. You can use it on either Europe or the North American maps in the unit.

Doesn't the NEW Garmin 2475LT that I am considering purchasing have the lastest version of the European and North American maps installed already when I receive it? and if not - Why is Garmin only offering one Free update for either Europe or North America and not two for both areas. How will I know if I have to use the one free update for my trip to Germany/Austria in October or for my traveling in North America before and after my trip. Please let me know. Thank you.

No, they come with a free map update to the latest version of the maps. For your home country you will want to buy a lifetime map update subscription so you can keep the maps always up to date. When you register the unit the Garmin site will notify you if there is a newer map for either area.

Hi Jordan,
You don't respond completely to the Clifford's question. Is it better to buy a nuvi 2475LT (and to pay for an update subscription) or a standard GPS (with a lifetime North American map and to pay for an Europe downloaded map)?
Thanks for your hints
Gilles

It really depends on how often you may travel to Europe.

If you make annual or semi-annual trips, then the preloaded Europe maps plus the lifetime Europe map updates are the best option.

If this is a one time trip and you won't be needing to update, downloading the current map or purchasing the preloaded card are great choices.
