I have the older 1490T the only problem with it was charging. It would get a full charge on the computer but not charge during travel. I have replaced the battery and bought new Garmin car charger. Any ideas as to the problem? It seems to work fine as long as I charge on computer at night and then use in car.
I have recently purchased the newer 1490LMT thinking the only change is lifetime map and traffic update. I hate it. One third of the screen is taken up by 3 or four items on right side of map screen. While they can be adjusted as to what you choose I don't see a way to make them go to bottom or like previous model. I can tap screen to get full map but then loose the visual icon for street and next turn. Is there a way to adjust to be like the older version? Can I take away the dotted blue line on top of the purple line on the map?
A few of the main features that I need in a simple gps are: full 5 inch screen, route avoidance, lane assist, intersection guide, street name spoken, free lifetime traffic alert, favorites and maybe speed limit.
Which version fit these options.

If it charges on the computer and not in the car. And if you have a new cable then the problem is with the power port in your car not having power or enough power.

All the nuvi 1490's are the same. Sounds like you have changed the map settings. You will need to put the unit back to defaults or change that one map setting.

Tools -> Settings -> Map -> Map Layout (2nd page)

Can I take away the dotted blue line on top of the purple line on the map? I am unsure what you are looking at.

Here is a link to a video on how to reset to factory defaults.
