How to perform a factory reset on the 3590?

Garmin Tech Support has recommend a "hard reset" several times as the default fix when I have a problem.

So far standard "press the bottom right corner of the screen while turning the unit on" doesn't work. I've also read of other people with the same problem. I have a large thumb that certainly covers the lower corner. I've tried pencil erasor. I've tried pressing and holding, then turning the GPS on. I've turned on first, waited for the first copyright screen, then pressed, noda.
Sofware V7.2

A couple questions:
1) Anyone else having this problem under V 7.x ??
2) Users have listed other methods to "Clear all user data":
web ://factory-reset.com/wiki/Nuvi_3590LMT
web ://forums.gpsreview.net/viewtopic.php?t=26265

These appear to clear many of my settings/preferences, and some data (like trip data),
but other things will remain: custom vehicle icon, and surprisingly my custom waypoints (current.gpx??). Should I have expected these all to be deleted?

What is the original problem you are trying to correct? If it is a screen issue then a reset may not work if the screen is dead. Are you able to use the unit and navigate the menu's? If you can still navigate the menus try the following

Settings -> Device -> touch the three bars in the top left corner -> Restore

By the sounds of your last paragraph you got the reset to work. Are you trying to erase user data?

Overall everything works, screen is fine. Currently trying to fix two things:
1) The "Where have I been" application is often missing parts of a total days travel and only gives me the last piece. For example, Saturday I put 120 miles on, yet on Sunday when I looked back to "where have I been", it showed me the last ~45 miles. Which, coincidentally, starts right when I changed my "Where to" destination point. however when I read the GPS with BaseCamp, the day is broken into ~5 segments and covers the whole distance. This has happened a bunch of times, and I've posted about it in a different thread.
2) self entered speedlimit updates do not stay. they did for the first month, but now I enter a new value, hit save, map view returns, new speed limit is seen for 1 second then changes back to original value.
I did delete the speed.db file in \.System\SQlite\SpeedCorrections which seemed to help for a day, but still having intermittant issues.
Thought a reset wasn't a bad idea, start fresh.

...so after I did the "Clear all user data", I was surprised to still see things like waypoints I had entered on the GPS, and the downloaded vehicle icon. Custom POI's I wasn't surprised about since they're on a flash card.

Also a 3rd issue I haven't started poking at yet is that I change the icon for a favorite location to something useful, and then a day or so later it reverts back to the heart. Haven't figured out the trigger, maybe cold start after USB connections.

Those do sound like issues that Garmin needs to fix with firmware. I have not heard of others having the same problems yet.

As per user data you will have to manually delete the appropriate files from the unit.
