Hi, It is not necessary or recommended to apply dielectric grease to the USB contacts. Could give a little more detail about the mount taking water?
Thanks!

Under rain, water goes slowly into connector.
That water generates corrosion, rust and verdigris.
In my last ride, alimentation shuts down to the GPS and the mini-USB connector goes VERY hot.

Do I need to glue it with silicone?

I would like to know the solution to this as well as I plan on using my new Nuvi 550 unit on my motorcycle.

Hello GSBeton,

We have had no customers with problems in the USB port as of yet. Your the first. I don't suggest putting contact grease on the connector. Just make sure all connectors are tight when using it on the bike. You may want to contact Garmin for their input. 1-800-800-1020.

Cheers
