Just bought the 1490LMT and discovered the problem with the map download. I chose Canada and bordering states but then discovered I could not search for POIs/addresses etc. in Washington state. If I return this unit, is there a Garmin that will download free map updates for all of North America without any problems?

The nuvi 1490 is a few years old now and at its prime it had plenty of memory for map updates but that quickly changed. You can still load your north American maps on the nuvi 1490lmt. You just need an additional 4GB or 8GB card.

This years models will have enough memory for updates for many years. The nuvi 2595LMT and the nuvi 3590LMT are good 5" models.
