I suggest doing a firmware update to the GPS unit to see if that helps. You can use the free program Garmin Webupdater.

You will want to reload the firmware using Garmin WebUpdater even if it is the same version. It only takes a few minutes. The map update will not effect the volume of the unit. You can also try a reset.
