have a garmin nuvi 1490 when i plug to pc it tell me to purchase the updates the time I buy updates I can buy a new one for a little more.I see there are free updates for some and wondered if 1490 was one of them. Thanks for your time

You can buy a nuvi 1490 with free map updates. That is the LMT in the name of some models. LMT = Lifetime maps and Traffic. The nuvi 1490LMT does not have enough internal memory for North America so you will need a external 4 or 8GB memory card also. I suggest a newer unit that will have enough memory like the nuvi 2595LMT.
