Trip Planner having problems?

How do I make reliable, point-to-point routes that let me identify the route that I'd like, rather than having the NUVI dictate to me. This is very important for pre-planning vacation routes where one is unfamiliar with the area, yet would like to take advantage of the scenery, or skirt heavy traffic possibilities. I have a $10 app for my iPad that works great, but is difficult to program.

With the trip planner experiment just conducted, I would not recommend anyone rely on the results in an unfamiliar area. For the routing experiment, the NUVI requested that I turn at every intersection, in many cases, in the opposite direction of expected travel. All coordinates were entered as GPS points and confirmed with Map View.

I would really expect, for the cost of the unit, that the support software would be more reliable than what I've experienced. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, is there a better routing tool available for a fee?

When using the default routing, by selecting an endpoint, the Garmin works excellently. My compliments. I selected this Garmin based on my satisfaction with an older unit that I purchased in 2001

If the points are not created using the Garmin maps they wont always work. The Trip Planner is very basic and you can do what you want but it will take a lot of work and you will have to pass very near to each via point. It will take sometime to get used to but you should be able to figure t out. Make sure you create the route using Garmin Basecamp and make sure that the routing settings are the same in the unit and the computer software or the unit will recalculate each time. Also try the selection off-road in routing settings. That will not follow the roads but you will need to add a lot more points to make it work.
