You would contact Garmin or an authorized repair depot for a battery replacement. You will send the unit to them and they will replace the battery for a small charge. Most people just buy a new unit for a few dollars more.

Whoa! It's that expensive?
This is considered a disposable unit?

Disposable Unit? No, I would not consider it disposable. The battery lasts a few years and after that most people end up upgrading. Unlike other manufacturers where the maps are not updatable or of lower quality, Garmin units have a better track record. They use Navteq mapping and they design their own units unlike some manufacturers that buy cheap hardware from China then add a low quality third party software. There are some other good quality manufacturers our there but Garmin does the best job.

If you are looking for a more affordable unit then I would suggest browsing the smaller screen units. Such as the 13XX and 12XX series.
