Good day!

As much as I like the 3790T as a secondary device if my 1690 goes bad, it's a bit too rich for my blood. Then I saw this GPS and its features. A nice alternative, but I have a few questions regarding its capabilities:

(1) Though the screen res. isn't as great as the 3790, will it be somewhat better than what's offered in the 1xxx series?

(2) Will the terrain view flow smoothly (ie. decent processing power)?

(3) Will the mount have a speaker like the 3700s?

I thank you for your time. Greatly appreciated.

Hi Anthony,

I'll be happy to help with your questions.

1) The screen resolution on a 2360LMT will be the same as what is offered in the 1xxx series.

2) Yes, the terrain will flow smoothly - I have never seen this as any sort of problem with Garmin Nuvi's.

3) No, the mount is not a speaker like the 37xx units. The speaker will be built into the unit.

I hope this information helps! Let us know if you have anymore questions.

Thank you!

Jordan

Thanks for your help Jordan!

I have a few more questions, if you do not mind.

(1) Is the mount powered? There seems to be more success with Traffic updates on a powered mount (765T, 1690 - although the latter is 3G based) that those that do not have it (13xx and 14xx), based on my experiences with Garmin products.

(2) Is the in-stock date based from Garmin themselves? I'm just curious. I know it just changed from 11/10 to 12/16 yesterday.

(3) How far do you have to zoom out to get the terrain view?

Again, your time is appreciated, and I also take appreciation in the fact you answer in such a timely manner. I'll definitely return to this site!

Hello Anthony,

The Nuvi 37xx mount is powered. The nuvi 13XX is not.

The stock date is based on when Garmin tells us they will ship.

Terrain view (nuvi3790) - Can be viewed as far out as 15mi but is only useful when zoomed right in.

Cheers
Jordan

Hello. I just bought the 3790T on Saturday, and now I see this forthcoming 2360LMT. It looks like the 2360LMT is a far better deal, with included lifetime maps, and it seems to have the same features as the 3790T. Is the 3790T worth keeping, or should I return it and just wait for the 2360LMT? And is there anything the 3790T does that the 2360LMT does not do? Thanks...

The Nuvi 3790T has a higher resolution screen, a slightly longer battery life (4 hrs vs 3), a much louder and clearer voice prompts through the speaker in the mount and of course the capacitive screens similar to the iPhones. Otherwise the 3790T's are very similar to the Nuvi 2360LMTs.
Hopefully this helps!

Thanks Roxie. This is a tough decision. I hate taking items back to the store, but for over $200 in savings, I can wait and get the 2360LMT w/o really losing anything. Ugh. What to do. Any recommendations?

Is the terrain view the same on the Nuvi 2360 and on the 3790? The 3790 is the ultra slim, glass display is the 2360 alike or is it more like the older thicker models? Thanks, really enjoying your website.

Hello Fran,

Its hard to answer that question because the unit is not for sale yet. We will have to test the units when they are available to answer most questions. For now we will have to assume they will be the same. Please try back when the units start to ship confirmation. .

Now that both of these units are in use--I have read some pretty negative comments about the 3790 and the JV (junction views) as well as those that say the 2360 gives better JV if in portrait mode...
that is one feature I want and the 37xx units and the 2360 are the only two that I see offering it currently...
Can anyone say if the 3790 IS better in portrait mode vs landscape...
I like the powered speaker available for 3790 but that required a windshield mount--or can it be used with a beanbag type?

and if anyone has actually used both models for multi-point trips is there any difference in making a route/trip, changing it before the destination, or having the units make recalculations if you deviate from the route?

Is Voice Activation easier to use on one vs the other? or Bluetooth quality--
these aren't big items to use but they are features of both Garmins so if one is better than the other that is consideration...

The difference in junction view people noticed is most likely do to newer maps being shipped in the 2360. Newer maps will have more areas covered for Junction view and other services. The voice recognition is the same between the two. Either unit can be used with the Garmin bean bag. The Garmin bean bag uses the included holders.

Multi point routing is almost the same based on what I have noticed doing videos.

Bluetooth is the same in the two units. I would recommend bluetooth for the EcoRoute HD capabilities and as a back up for hands free. I personally would not use it as my primary Handsfree system.

The 3790 has a much better screen but can not be used with gloves on.
