Yes, all GPS receivers will work anywhere in the world. Since this unit has maps for Europe and North America it will provide you with navigation instructions in Germany.

How difficult is it to use this unit in Scotland...such as setting up...orienting...or can you just plug it in and you are ready to go ?

Question, are these countries included, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Holland, Austria, Poland, etc. Are there other countries. Canada and USA are included are they not.

the majority of Cars in Europe use the same power port as we do so no you don't need a special plug.
