I am a geocacher ( I've never owned an automotive gps ) & want to know if I can load GC codes into the 1490 LMT so it will assist me in getting to the nearest parking coordinates for the cache.
I don't want to use the unit to find caches, as I have a GPS Map 62 & a GPS Map 60CSx for that, only driving assistance to get near.
Thanks,
Ralph

Hello Ralph,

I put a few hundred Geocaches in my GPS by using the External POI function. You need to download POILOADER from Garmin. It is free. On the download page there are instructions on how to use the software. You need to put the geocaches in a compatible CSV format and include an icon. When you upload the geocahes with POILoader you can set proximity alarms so if you get close your GPS will make an audible alarm. You can set the distance manually.

Another way is download Basecamp for free from Garmin. Import your geocaches and trnasfer them to your GPS. They should show up in your favorites menu.

Cheers
Jordan

Hi Jordan
Thanks for the info.
I have ordered the 1490LMT from GPS City & look forward to using it & also using it as an aid to navigating to caches.
Also, thanks for the videos on it's operation.
