I have a Zumo 450 and I use Mapsource to create custom routes. Is this possible with the Nuvi 550?

Hello jsp,

The Nuvi 550 has good route capabilities. You can edit routes on the unit and or on the PC with Garmin BaseCamp. Topo Maps work well with this unit also. There is no audio autput suitable for a motorcycle. It does have a small speaker for car use. It is a great and affordable GPS.

I am looking at this for car application. I don't need topo maps, just basic road maps. The main thing I am looking for is custom routing, point by point. With the Zumo/ mapsourse combo, I can make very detailed, off the main hyway routes. Can this be done on the Nuvi 550?

Yes you can do custom routes with the Nuvi 550. It works very similar to the Zumo series.
