How does this unit handle topographic maps?

Can you route with topo maps on this unit?

What are the primary differences in the way this unit handles topo maps versus say the 60CSx series.

Hello Monster,

I find the maps view fine but do not use the nuvi as a handheld GPS to navigate yourself in the back country. Adding topo is more for show.

Cheers
Jordan

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for the info. That is what I am debating with. I want to use the device for backcountry exploration. I was originally looking at the 60CSx, but would like something with a bigger screen. It will be mounted in my jeep and doesn't need to be handheld. I would sacrifice portability for a larger screen.

Is there such a device or am I just better off sticking with a handhelf for the increased topo capability?

Sorry, this is a bit off topic for the 2360. :)

Hello,

For all the functions and features you are looking for the best way to go is handheld device, as the TOPO's wont route properly on vehicle units.

Hope this helps!

Hi Jordan,

When you say "I find the maps view fine but do not use the nuvi as a handheld GPS to navigate yourself in the back country. Adding topo is more for show. "

Do you mean for hiking on the trail or driving in a 4x4 on forest service roads and decommissioned roads?

I don't intend to use it ad a hand held out of the vehicle. If that helps in making by decision. :)

Would this unit work well for my intended application?

Hello,

If you are no looking to route using the TOPOS and just want them for some extra reference than the 2360 will work perfectly fine.

Cheers
