Speed of Recalculation?

I'm seeing some preliminary reports of slow recalculation speed from the Nuvi 2360 after a missed turn. I've also seen reports of Nuvi 3790 users saying that turning off Nu-routes/My Trends/Traffic Trends, speeds up route calculation time. I'm wondering if anyone has turned the Nu-routes functionality off and found the recalculation time of the Nuvi 2360 to be snappier.

Hello,

The speed of the recalculation is not a problem. Yes turning off the routing features in the unit will speed it up but also reduce the routing accuracy.

Cheers

Compared to my old 265WT, the 2360LMT is much slower when initially calculating a new route. I can't say I've noticed it being much slower when recalculating after a missed turn though. In fairness, I should admit when I normally veer from the route provided it is because I know where I am going so I don't pay that close of attention to the unit in those situations.

I found this thread of emails while trying to find out how to speed up the calculation time of my 2360 LMT! It is very slow. I don't remember the 1350 being this slow. I'm trying to calculate a route from Calgary to Langley BC, and it's been sitting at 26% calculation for the duration of me typing this email. I hope it gets an answer eventually. It just turned to 27%. I am going to try and turn different things off to see if it is quicker. It is now at 30%. 33% by the time I entered my name and hit submit

It is common for that unit to take a little longer because it takes into account more information such as traffic, driving habits and more. Try going into your Navigation(route) settings and turn off some of the special features like Traffic avoidance. That will help speed the unit up a bit. also be sure to update your units maps and Firmware.

I updated the firmware and maps in July before setting out on a trip. I disabled voice commands, My trends, avoidances, traffictrends, and bluetooth. To calculate how to travel from Langley BC to Calgary AB took just a few seconds over 15 minutes. It took around 17 minutes and 20 seconds with a few avoidances. Today, I reset my unit under tools and settings and I havne't noted any improvement in calculations speed. I didn't time it, but I'm quite certain it was taking 10 or 20 minutes to calculate a route from Bellingham, Washington to Calgary, Alberta. I resorted to paper maps on my trip today because by the time it would calculate a route, I had already missed the turn-off it wanted me to take, which would put it into another 10 or 20 minute recalculation. I don't understand why there are so many positive reviews of this GPS? Is mine a lemon?

If you have done the above please contact Garmin for assistance. They may know more about the calculation problems you are seeing.

Thank you,
I found a different way to "reset" my GPS, and it cured the slow recalculation. While powering on the GPS, I pressed and held the bottom right corner of the screen. When it asked if I wanted to erase all user data, I pressed yes. It didn't do anything, so I kept pressing yes, and then I held down the yes. After that it rebooted, and the GPS has performed amazing! It can calculate a route for a 7 or 8 hour drive in 10 to 15 seconds. This reset method seems to be much more "thorough" than doing it through the menus. It even reset the word for accessing the voice menus. I've put all my settings back to the way they were, and the GPS is still performing quickly. I'm not sure what was the matter before. Use this method with caution because I don't think it is an "advertised" method for resetting your GPS, and it may have ramifications that I am not aware of. However, if your GPS was like mine (i.e. worthless), then perhaps you have nothing to lose.
