Hello Debbie,

The unit should not ask for a code unless you are using the incorrect cable with it, a non LT cable. You may want to contact Garmin for assistance in getting your free traffic. 1-800-800-1020

Hello Debbie,

If you are using the one that came with the unit then you are using the correct one. Please contact Garmin to see what may be going on with your unit.

Cheers

Hello Debbie,

I think I of misunderstood your response. Where you able to get a hold of Garmin to see if they could resolve the problem you are having?

Yes, I contacted Garmin. They sent me another traffic cable. Not fixed. Here's what happens:

I click on Tools, Settings, Traffic.
the following screen comes up:
Traffic Provider
Enable Traffic (green square with check mark)
Navteq Traffic (US, Can)
Lifetime Subscription

Then I click -- Add

Here is the EXACT Message that pops up: Before proceeding, go to http://www.garmin.com/fmtraffic to get a traffic subscription code. Enter the unit ID of the FM traffic receiver: 3808453888

I click "Next" and get "Enter traffic code". Of course, I do not have a code to enter.

Why is it so difficult to give the code that I need for this to work? I purchased the Garmin 1450LMT--I thought that meant lifetime maps and traffic updates. I can't even get traffic to connect! Please advise,

Debbie Clark

Hello Debbie,

You do not need to go through that process. All you need to do is plug the cable into the GPS. There is no traffic in your area so you will need to go to one of the cities nearby to pick up your first traffic signal. You need to be in an area that is covered to get your traffic signals.

What you are doing is adjusting the settings for PAID traffic. I think that is where the problem may be occurring.

Good luck

Thank your for your reply. What is the difference between PAID traffic and the lifetime subscription? I am not arguing, I just really want to know. Thank you again for your response, it is the most informative I have gotten.

Hello,

The difference if you pay a yearly fee for the service then you will not get advertisements in some Cities. Not all cities have ads via traffic broadcasts yet. If you use the lifetime traffic the yearly fee is free but in some cities you will get a text advertisements on the screen.

Cheers

Two things: The reception is in the special cord, and you must be in an area where the traffic information works. (I am not), however my traffic does work when I am in one of the covered areas WITHOUT a code. When you travel in a broadcast area, it will automatically work.
