I have the Garmin Nuvi 550. One of the reasons I bought it is to do custom routing - I want to wander at will. When I use a paper map, I highlight the roads (mostly smaller & scenic roads)I want to take. The towns along the way are not my destination. When we're on a long motorcycle trip, my destination is different every day & it can often change.

My question is this: Is there a way I can use a similar technique on my gps? How can I plan a route on my 550 without having to give a street number & name (which most of the time I don't know). I simply want to be able to choose waypoints A, B, C etc as guidelines to plan my route - similar to my highlighting a route on a paper map.

I hope I made myself clear & that you can help. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Hello Diane,
Up to 10 custom routes and 500 Waypoints/favorites/locations can be saved to the Nuvi 550.
Waypoints can be created and saved by selecting cities or by browsing the map by paging down to these options after selecting the "Where to" function.
