I have GA27 GPS antenna I'm using with my current unit. Would this antenna work on 2460LMT? Do I need another remote antenna for the new unit?

My GPS is mounted on the bottom of the central console, so its off the view from outside and not abstracting the windshield (its under fine to have GPS mounted on the windshield in Ontario, even many people still do).

In the city with high-rise building my GPS used to loose signal all the time till I installed the GA27. With external antenna I'm always having at least 3/4 connection bar filled.

Hello AlexJet,

There is no antenna connections on new nuvi vehicle Navigators. You GA27 will not work with the new units because of that reason.

The windshield law is normally only enforced if you put the GPS in a location that is unsafe (blocking your view). It is against the law almost right across Canada to mount anything to the windshield. I personally have never heard of it being enforced. Better to play safe just incase.

You can always use the Dash adapter with the unit. Garmin provides a free one if needed.

The 2460LMT has some sort of socket in the FM traffic power cord (in the plastic block where the cord changes from double to single) that almost looks like an external antenna plug in. Is that possible? I don't have an external antenna to try it.

I find that the 2460LMT receives satellite input almost anywhere within reason. It even works inside my house when you would think no satellites would be in view, although it tends to "wander" some. This is almost inconvenient since it keeps leaving tracks as I plan trips unless I remember to enable the GPS simulator. I have held the GPS for entering locations while in the right seat of my van and haven't noticed losing satellite reception. I would expect that it could work mounted on a console unless maybe the vehicle roof is exceptionally large.

The antenna port on the traffic cable is for FM traffic only and does not allow for a GPS antenna.

The GPS works best when it has sky view. Turning off the GPS and putting it in Demo mode is a good idea when planning indoors. When indoors it will wander because of multi-pathing, weak satellite signals and poor PDOP.
