My Nuvi 550 is loaded with Bluecharts V7. I am very dissapointed that unlike my older Quest, it cannot locate the standard navigational aids such as marker bouys, lights etc. It makes this unit almost useless as a safe GPS on large water.

Is there any fix for this? Garmin says not.....I thought there may be an after market fix.

Hello Wiski,

The main purpose of a nuvi 550 is a car GPS and will not have all the same features as a Marine Chartplotter. It will support marine use but not every feature that you may be used to. I only recommend the nuvi for boating on small lakes and for those who go out on a friends boat so they too will have some marine data.

** Make sure you are in Marine mode and not automotive.

If you need something that will be fully feature I would recommend the GPSMap 421S. If you want something more diverse then the Montana 650 handheld is great but will lack depth sounding.

Cheers
