Looking at the Nuvi 550 for Motorcycle trip to the east Coast aprox 2000km one way. From my understanding with the Trip & Waypoints software I can plan a route and download to the Nuvi 550. Is this unit powerfull enough to handle a trip of this distance with the stops and siteseeing etc...

You can use Garmin Trip and Waypoint manager to transfer the routes to your unit but the software comes with no detailed background maps to plan your trips with. I would recommend buying City Navigator North America NT on DVD or a similar software with a detailed background map. You can also use some versions of Garmin Topo and Garmin Metroguide if you want some mapping diversity. Just make sure the maps you use are auto-routing for easier trip planning.

What is the largest MicroSD card that the Nuvi 550 can use? Also, is there a preferred speed rating on the MicroSD?

Thanks

I have tested a 16Gb (class 4) card with no issues. You will not need more than that for the unit does not play music or have a camera. You will be loading mainly maps only onto the card. Garmin does not know the max speed (class) that is supported.
