I currently own a 273c that allows a lot of flexability with route planning and via points. Reading Q&A leads me to believe I would be giving up significant flesability in route planning.

The Garmin 276C is a great unit and Garmin just came out with a good replacement the Montana 600 and Montana 650. They will have all the marine, hiking, road navigation and more that the GPSMap 276C had. Just like the 276C you will need to buy road mapping separate.

The 3790 is a road navigator. If that is all you do then it is a good choice for it has some new routing capabilities and traffic. It does have a trip planner that allows multiple VIA points.

How do you use your unit? (Road Navigation, Off-roading, Marine, Hikiing, Geocaching ... combination of)

The Montana is the closest in functionality to the GPSMap 276C that I have seen so far. There will be differences but not many and in most cases you will be gaining new functionality in the Montana.
