Hello Doc,

I will be making some Aera Videos shortly. In those videos I will cover how to open the battery case. In the mean time the battery comes out similar to the Nuvi 550. Here is a link to the video.

You just have to slide the battery release all the way to the one side. The cover should popup just a little. Get your finger nail in the crack created. Then lift it up. It took me a few tries the first time.

Cheers
Jordan

Thanks Jordan, yes the slider is a bit confusing at first, but I actually wanted to know how to open the whole unit. My son stuck something down the microphone hole and damaged the mic.

Hello Doc,

I have never opened that unit but there is most likely torque screws hidden below one of the stickers in the battery case or on the outside of the unit. The unit may be sealed with glue or something so if you break the seal you may not be able to make it water resistant again.

You may want to contact Garmin for assistance or to see if they can fix it inexpensively.

Cheers
Jordan
