What is the trick to making the aera500 connect to the computer. I have Win XP, USB from battery compartment to computer connected, microSD card in place, MapSource open, Windows Explorer open. Basically all that I think is correct, but no communication is happening. The only hit that there is something connected to the aera500 is that on it's screen it displays slow flashing: GARMIN Close Battery Door. Any ideas please?

The unit will act as a mass storage device. So when you plug it into the computer it will show up as another harddrive in Windows Explorer or Mac Finder. You may also want to try running the free program Garmin Webupdater. You will also want to download Garmin Basecamp which replaces MapSource.

If the update software program does not see it then their may be an issue with the unit you have. If you continue to have problems connecting it to a Computer please contact Garmin tech support at 1-800-800-1020
