Hello, I have Garmin 296 what I would like to use on my boat. I need to buy marine radar, small and cheep, but can not make choice. Is any radar that I can connect with display of Garmin 296 of radar need to have own display? Could you give me some suggestions what marine radar I should buy, cheep and small (15Nm). I have big mast, so I can put radar on very high position if needed.

Hello Captain Bob,

The GPSMap 296 is not radar compatible. The unit I recommend at this time is the GPSMap 740S. It is Radar compatible via the Radar port. The GMR-18HD would be a good place to start. It is a closed array.
