We have had problems using cigarette lighter adapters for Colorado, Oregon, and Nuvi on motorcycles. The units would regularly power off. Is this a common problem, and would this unit fix it?

That is not a known problem. It is most likely due to a bad connection. I suggest making sure you have no shorts in the cable or loose connections. Could be a faulty cigarette port on your bike.

This cable will fix it if properly installed. It is a simple install, two wires. Just make sure that the cable wont get pinched or damaged when using your bike.

This was happening on both bikes and 4 gps models. Could it be voltage related or vibrations?

The cable will work fine as long as the power in your Cigarette lighter port is around 12V. You may have a bad cable. Are you using a Garmin USB cable? or one from a different manufacturer?

Yes, these are garmin power cables. Bike voltage is around 13.6 V. Used in the car with no outage problems.

Buying a replacement cable would most likely work. It is not a kown issue so it is most likely do to the cable based on your posts

I used a direct cig connector with no problems. I changed to a dual usb cig plug with the supplied usb connect to the Oregon, and was constantly losing power. The other unit (GoPro Camera)plugged into the same dual plug, never lost power,. The vibration and bouncing on a dual sport motorcycle causes the connections to lose connectivity. I believe the big heavy part on the cord (I don't know the name of this part)causes too much weight on the connection and causes it to pull out of the GPS. I think this weight needs to be tied down or moved to ensure a positive connection. I haven't tried it yet.

Ricky: That is the DC to DC converter which takes 12VDC and conditions it to 5VDC to power the unit. It is a necessary part of the cable. Thank you for your comments.
